Orthodontics in Waterloo - Braces Waterloo - Invisalign Waterloo

At University Dental, we offer orthodontics in Waterloo, Ontario. Our doctors have additional training in both traditional metal braces and Invisalign clear braces.  During diagnostic set-up our doctors will let you know which orthodontic method you’re best suited for.

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry specializing in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of jaw, face, and bite irregularities (malocclusions). Orthodontic treatment is provided by an oral health care provider who has typically completed two to three years of additional training beyond dental school.

The differences between Invisalign and traditional braces are minimal.  The main reason patients desire Invisalign is for esthetic preferences; typically adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment request the clear aligners.  Invisalign requires switching out aligner trays every two weeks, and moving teeth sequentially until the desired look and bite are achieved.  The main drawback to Invisalign clear braces is that they cannot always correct severe bite issues (malocclusion), and treatment depends upon a patient's commitment to wearing the trays. Typically Invisalign can help and correct minor crossbites, overbites, and underbites, but sometimes, metal braces are the preferred solution.  Metal braces involve the traditional wire and brackets and usually require one visit every six weeks for the doctor to make minor adjustments. Depending on the patient and their circumstance, one method of orthodontic treatment might be more suitable than another.  If you're interested in orthodontic treatment in Waterloo, our practice would be pleased to consult with you on the various treatment options we offer.

Recent years have brought about many changes within the dental industry, specifically with regards to orthodontic treatment and care. Now more than ever patients are experiencing fewer incidences of cavities and missing teeth due to the heightened awareness of fluoride use and preventative dentistry. This increasing awareness on the health and look of a patient’s smile has fueled the desire for many to seek out orthodontia not only as a medical necessity, but for cosmetic reasons as well. One of the reasons Dr. Mitrana wanted to become a dentist was the appeal of esthetic dentistry. Being able to combine the biological systems of the body with the flexibility of utilizing art was highly appealing. He greatly enjoys creating beautiful smiles and would be honored to help you shape the smile you’ve always wanted.
